Forgiveness is a Blessing

Drinking whiskey and laughter,
I stood up distrustful
of your darkness.
I had spent years with you,
melded together with vows.
let you go without
a parting embrace.
I still dream
of a secret place
beneath the stairs,
full of strange tools
made to bash in
the skulls and hearts
of those untrustworthy.
After seconds, minutes, days, years
we are now covered in dust.
Time does not heal all wounds
but makes it easier
to let go.
